Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Miz B of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- Be careful not to include spoilers! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title and author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesday participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers!
From Aunt Dimity's Death by Nancy Atherton (Penguin Books, 1993, page 116):
“Some people are lucky enough to look like Bambi when they cry. I look like Rudolph.”
As the teaser may hint, Aunt Dimity’s Death is, of all things, not a tragedy. The first book in the Aunt Dimity cosy mystery series (strong emphasis on cosy, featherlight on mystery), it combines a secret, a romantic love story, and a ghostly godmother into a humorous, yet poignant, fairytale of a mystery.
Emotionally and financially, American Lori Shepherd is at the end of her rope when she learns that the woman she thought was a character in Lori’s childhood bedtime stories, has, in fact, bequeathed her a cottage in a small English village. But that is just the beginning of the surprises that will change Lori's life.
Charming and funny, Aunt Dimity’s Death is the kind of mystery that even the gentlest of souls will not need to fear reading. It warmed my heart and put a smile on my face. And to round off the cosiness, the recipe for "Beth’s Oatmeal Cookies", featured in the story, is included at the end of the book.
